Hair Loss Prevention and Treatment

Hair loss (Alopecia) can occur in men, women and children. Causes can be multi factorial (i.e. genetic, auto immune, nutritional, drug-induced or androgenic).

For hair loss caused by androgenic alopecia (male and female pattern baldness), there is no cure, although many treatments are available. Finasteride (Propecia^®) is a prescription hair loss treatment that is often prescribed by Dr. Brodsky.

Minoxidil (Rogaine^®), a topical therapy, is rubbed directly onto the scalp and works for both men and women. It usually works best for hair loss at the top and back of the scalp, where there is still some remaining hair. This is available over the counter at most pharmacies.
